The ‘ENTIRE CREATION’ depends on GOD for SURVIVAL!
"O Lord, how manifold are Your works!
In wisdom You have made them all. The earth is full of Your possessions--these
all wait for You, that You may give them their food in due season. What You
give them they gather in; You open Your hand, they are filled with good. You
hide Your face, they are troubled; You take away their breath, they die and
return to their dust. You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; and You
renew the face of the earth." (Psalms 104:24, 27-30)
Psalm 104
praises God for His greatness as the ultimate Creator. The introduction to this
psalm is a brief call to praise (v. 1a), while the body of the psalm (vv.
1b–30) expounds on the majesty of God’s creative work as few psalms do. God is
infinite (vv. 1b–4) and He has created and established the earth’s land and
seas (vv. 5–9). God cares for the animal kingdom by giving food and drink (vv.
10–18) and all living creatures are completely dependent on God for survival (vv.
27–30). The whole of creation must
recognize that as it did not come into existence by itself it cannot maintain
existence by itself!
If God
withdraws the light of His countenance from His living creatures, they are
confounded (30:7). God sends forth His spirit, and all the living they are
created. Though they may not be conscious of it, all living creatures depend on
God for their food as well. As God supplies it, they gather it in…He opens His
hand and they are abundantly filled. When death strikes down one generation, a
new one is raised up to take its place. All creation depends on the Creator for
birth, life, and sustenance. Even death
is controlled by the Sovereign God!
God provides
life, water, food and homes for man and beast and also the birds, and He sees
to it they are cared for. God is omnipresent: He is everywhere (Ps. 139).
However, in His anger God withdraws covenant blessings and this is experienced
as divine absence. So, let us understand
that the entire creation depends on God for survival…!!!
As part of
God’s creation, we need to also turn to God and depend on Him for our daily
survival. We need to cling to Jesus daily and draw nourishment from Him for our
survival. As Jesus Himself has declared – without Him we can do NOTHING: "Abide in Me, and I in you. As the
branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can
you, unless you abide in Me. I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides
in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing."
(John 15:4-5)
"Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy." (1 Tim 6:17)
