Bible Reading: Proverbs Chapters 4-6
Let’s carefully CONSIDER our LIFE’s JOURNEY!
"But the path of the just is like the
shining sun that shines ever brighter unto the perfect day. The way of the
wicked is like darkness; they do not know what makes them stumble."
(Prov. 4:18-19)
Today is the
day that marks the end of six months (or, half) of this year, and it is a good
time to reflect on our journey through the pathway of our life. The book of
Proverbs gives us many pointers to walk every day with godly wisdom and following
divine instructions. In fact, Proverbs 4 urges us to carefully consider our own life’s journey as the above passage
contrasts the free unhindered and bright path of the righteous (v.18) with the
dark, confused way of the wicked (v.19).
The above
verses actually use imagery of an ever-increasing light to characterize
righteousness, and an impenetrable gloom to signify wickedness (John 8:12; Eph.
5:8–13). These verses present a renewed appeal from father to son to walk in
the way of wisdom and to avoid the path of the wicked at all costs. The contrast of the two paths is profound.
The way of wisdom is straight, unencumbered, and safe. The way of the wicked is
tortuous, hazardous, and marked by violence. One is a path of light, the other of darkness; one leads to promise,
the other to a stumbling destruction!
In fact, each
of the verses in this chapter (particularly verses 4, 23 and 26) encourages us
to evaluate where we are in life. We need to carefully consider where we are
headed to and daily ask God for His directions as we move forward. When we do
that, we can take advantage of the following promise of God: "I will instruct you and teach you in
the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye" (Psalms 32:8).
Apart from
praying and asking God for His direction, we should embrace His Word as our map
for finding out our current location, and follow His leading through His Word
as we embrace it wholeheartedly and follow it with all of our hearts. Walking
with God becomes better as we travel farther on with our path being illuminated
by the light of the Lord (Psalms 27:1).
As we obey God’s
Word, the light will get brighter on the path of life (v. 18). God’s Word will guide
us on the right path and will also keep us from wandering away through detours
or, falling into portholes of sin in our life journey. Let’s be assured of the
fact that we are headed in the right direction when we walk with God seeking
His direction through His Word. Let’s carefully consider our life’s journey
today and redirect our steps in the path of God!
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him." (Col. 3:16-17)
