Why has GOD revealed ‘SOME’ of His ‘SECRETS’ to US?

March 2 Bible Reading: Deuteronomy Chapters 28-30

Why has GOD revealed ‘SOME’ of His ‘SECRETS’ to US?

"The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but those things which are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law." (Deut 29:29)

The above verse forms the key that unlocks God's covenant with His people in Palestine. While there are certain secret things that belong to the Lord (especially matters concerning His judgments), Moses reminded the people that their responsibility was clearly revealed—to keep the covenant of the Lord. Revelation brings responsibility! The Israelites were accountable to obey God’s Word completely and this principle can be found many times in the New Testament as well: “To him who knows to do good [revelation] and does not do it [responsibility], to him it is sin” (James 4:17).

God does not give humans unlimited knowledge, but rather the privilege of knowing Him even without understanding the “secret things”. The reference to “secret things” may suggest that Moses faces the uncertain future of the nation, remembering their waywardness and how they turned to the golden calf at Horeb (Exodus 32). In this uncertainty, Moses trusted their hidden future to his trustworthy God!

The will of God had been revealed to the Israelites through the Law and the Commandments. If these revelations were acted upon wisely, then the people would receive God’s great blessings from God, but to disobey would hasten God’s judgment upon them. Revelation may be defined as “that process by which God imparted to human beings truths they otherwise could not know”. God’s revealed law was of vital importance, and the Israelites were required to obey this revealed law! Similarly, God’s revealed will is available to us in pages of the Bible! (see Romans 11:33-36)

Why has God revealed His secrets to us? So that we may daily read, reflect, understand, and live out His Word in our world. We are directed and encouraged to seek into that which God has made known to us through His Word. To ignore God’s Word and chase after the things God has left secret is foolishness as our responsibility is to obey what we know and not pry into what we do not know! Let us examine our spiritual perception through His revealed Word today!

"God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds" (Heb 1:1-2)
