Our REAL SECURITY is in the NAME of GOD

July 4 Bible Reading: Proverbs Chapters 16-18

Our REAL SECURITY is in the NAME of GOD

"The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe." (Prov 18:10)

One of the richest kings who ever lived, Solomon, looked at his immense wealth, position, power, wives, children and friends but did not feel that they provided him with the security that he needed in his life. However, he received a revelation as he pondered about where he could obtain the ‘real’ security that he was longing for - it was only in the name (character) of God that he could get ‘real’ security in his life!

The need for security/safety is an inherent need that every human being has – as per Maslow’s hierarchy of needs. This includes the need for security of body, of employment, of resources, of morality, of the family, of health and of property.

However, of late it is very clear that everything that people have held as security has crumbled and has proven to be of no security at all. Many people have tried to find safety/security in their wealth. However, the Bible is clear that wealth and riches will not last forever (Prov. 23:5; 27:24; Eccl. 5:14; I Tim. 6:17). False safety and security in wealth and riches has lead to laziness, pride and destruction. There is no ‘real’ security in position and power – for people rise and fall in power as the waves of the sea. This is evident from the stories of many world leaders who have fell down from places of influence and power. There is no ‘real’ security these days in anyone – family or friends – as many have realized in pain after going through divorces and separation.

Let us be rest assured that our ‘real’ security is in God and upon His word – by faith we trust Him to be who He is and what He says. "The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts." (Psalms 10:4) However, let us place our trust on God, His Name that is above every other name, and in His character – for He alone is our ‘real’ security!

"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling." (Psalms 46:1-3)
