TRUE SATISFACTION in LIFE comes from GOD ALONE
"The eyes of all look expectantly to You, and You give them their
food in due season. You open Your hand and satisfy
the desire of every living thing." (Psalms 145:15-16)
Psalm 145 is
another hymn penned by King David who directs his praises to God for God’s greatness in the past (vv. 1–7), God’s glory in the future (vv. 8–13) and
God’s grace in the present (vv. 14–21).
To expand this further, David praises God for
His glory (vv. 1-7), for His goodness
(vv. 8-10), for His kingdom (vv. 11-13),
for His providence (vv. 14-16), and for His saving mercy (vv. 17-21).
In the midst
of rendering his praises to God, David looks around him to all the animals on
the earth, all the fishes in the water and all the birds in the air and
realizes a profound truth. God has created all the animals, fishes and birds
(Gen 1:20-25), and God is sustaining all the living creatures on this earth by
giving them food in due season as they all look expectantly to God for their
daily survival. David realizes that every living being on this earth look
expectantly to God for nourishment and survival. God knows the need of every
animal, fish and birds and He satisfies their desires every day.
When Jesus
started His public ministry, He pointed this out as part of His lengthy
discourse called The Sermon on the Mount: "Look
at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns;
yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"
(Matt 6:26) As we understand that God our heavenly Father feeds all the animals
on this earth, all the fishes in the rivers, seas and oceans and all the birds
that fly in the air, God definitely knows our needs and He is well able not
only to sustain and nourish us, but also to satisfy our every need and longing.
On a personal level, our God is also our Good Shepherd and we shall not want
anything as He will satisfy our every need (Psalms 23:1-2).
Let us realize that true satisfaction comes from God alone, he will satisfy every thirst and longing that we have in our lives (John 4:13-14). Today, let us join Joni Eareckson Tada in praying this simple but profound prayer: ‘Lord, there are many things I desire, but I really don’t need. Subtract my desires and keep me from adding my own wants. Help me to find satisfaction in You, for only then will I find real and lasting contentment.’
