Bible Reading: Job Chapters 25-27
MAINTAINING our INTEGRITY ALWAYS
Moreover Job continued his discourse, and said: "As God lives, who
has taken away my justice, and the Almighty, who has made my soul bitter, as
long as my breath is in me, and the breath of God in my nostrils, my lips will not speak wickedness, nor my
tongue utter deceit.” (Job 27:1-4)
Job had lost
everything that was important in his life – his wealth, his children and even
his health. Even his wife had turned her back on him, and had suggested that he
“curse God and die” (Job 2:9). His
friends added salt to his wounds through their accusations and vain philosophy.
Everything was dark around Job’s life as he realized that God had allowed all
these afflictions to happen in his life. However, Job still maintained his
integrity as he vowed to himself that he will not speak any wickedness or
deceitful words to God in any form of accusation.
When things
go wrong in our life, our first tendency is to accuse God for allowing bad
things to happen to us. However, Job stands out as a good example who would not
speak any wickedness in times of trouble. We can see other examples in the
scriptures as well – Joseph and Daniel in the Old Testament and our Lord Jesus
Christ in the New Testament who maintained their integrity as they faced great
evil in their lives.
Let us maintain our integrity always
– no matter what happens in our lives!
"...But with the humble is
wisdom. The integrity of the upright will guide them..." (Prov 11:2-3)
"Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper." (Psalms 1:1-3)
