Be THANKFUL to GOD everyday

"Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples!" (Psalms 105:1)

Psalm 105 was evidently composed by King David, for the first fifteen verses of it were used as a hymn at the carrying up of the ark from the house of Obed-edom, and we read in 1 Chronicles 16:7, "Then on that day David delivered first this psalm to thank the Lord, into the hand of Asaph and his brethren." The first verses are full of joyful praise, and call upon the people to extol Jehovah (vv. 1-7); then the earliest days of the infant nation are described (vv. 8-15); the going into Egypt (16-23), the coming forth from it with the Lord's outstretched arm (vv. 24-38), the journeying through the wilderness and the entrance into Canaan (vv. 39-45). Psalms 105 is one of four psalms that begin with a note of thanksgiving (see also Psalms 107, 118, 136).

It is so important that we are thankful to God every day of our lives, as it is the will of God that we are sincerely thankful to Him (1 Thess. 5:18). Just as David recounted the blessings of God by leafing through the pages of history in the lives of the children of Israel, we need to look back in our lives and recall the many good things that God has done for us. He has been our Ebenezer – our God has thus far helped us in our spiritual journey (1 Sam 7:12). Through our thankfulness, we can also worship God (Heb. 12:28). We also need to understand that if we are not thankful to God, we are slipping on a slippery slope of sin, uncleanness and debauchery (Rom. 1:21-32).

Let us make thankfulness a priority in our worship to God today – when we call upon the name of God. After that, let us turn around and make known His workings to the other people around us. (Psalms 105:1).

"Serve the Lord with gladness; come before His presence with singing. Know that the Lord, He is God; it is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; we are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name." (Psalms 100:2-4)
