APPRECIATE the GLORY & GOODNESS of GOD in NATURE
"The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows His
handiwork. Day unto day utters speech and night unto night reveals
knowledge. There is no speech nor language where their voice is not
heard." (Psalms
19:1-3)
Psalms 19 is
one of the most beautiful hymns penned by King David that praises God for the
excellence of all His creative works. This “general
revelation” by which His power and glory may be seen in the ‘works of God’ (vv. 1-6) is complemented
by the “special revelation” of the ‘Word of God’ (vv. 7–9) that enables
people to understand Him as One who gives wisdom and who provides a means by
which sin can be forgiven for every human being (vv. 10–14).
When we look
at nature, we can see that it is a grand symphony conducted by the creator God.
The beauty and grandeur of nature can never be surpassed by anything that
humans have created so far – just think how God created all that we see around
us in just six days by the power of His spoken Word (Gen. 1: 3-31). We should
get both visual and hearing stimulus as we see, observe and hear from nature.
However, we
should not stop at just appreciating the grandeur of nature but comprehend the glory of God – for nature “declares the glory of God” (Psalms
19:1). The word “glory” in scripture refers to the essential worth, beauty and
value, so when we behold nature, we visualize the intrinsic worth, brilliance
and the radiant beauty of the Creator God Himself. Not only do we see the glory
of God in creation, but we also see the goodness
of God in creation. "The Lord is
good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works." (Psalms
145:9) God is the architect and engineer of all creation. God spoke and His
glorious beauty poured out through His creation.
Let us pause a moment from our busy
schedules today and tune our hearts to God’s creation so that the beauty we see
around us in nature may catapult us to praising and glorifying God for His
glory and goodness!
